Welcome to Intractable

Helping Children, Young Adults, And Their Families.

Giving Children Their Lives Back

Intractable Epilepsy
Your donations are helping us fund life saving medication costs.
Intractable Epilepsy destroys lives, and it is our mission to make these lives better both medically and financially, for the sufferers and their families.

Intractable is the first UK charity setup by families who have loved ones with intractable epilepsy. Our loved ones had exhausted all NHS treatments and we all ended up being thrown together after finding cannabinoid treatments. It helped our loved ones so much that we wanted to be able to provide some financial help to other families who are in the same position.

Many of these children suffer hundreds of devastating seizures every day.  Nearly all have exhausted the traditional pharmaceutical anti-epileptic drugs.  Medicinal cannabis is the only medicine that really helps. Medicinal cannabis has been legal in the UK since 2018 but access on the NHS remains blocked.  So the families are having to cope with the immense strain of fundraising up to £2,000 a month to access it privately, as well as deal with the daily care of their very sick children.  Imagine if this was your child.  Please help us to help them.  Your donations will be used to help the families continue to get the medicine they so desperately need.

1st November marks five years since the law was changed to allow the prescribing of medicinal cannabis.
We would like to share with you the heart-wrenching story of Kai, as told by his mother, Vikki Hammond. Vikki opens up about the tragic loss of her son to SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy). Kai's story serves as a powerful testament to the devastating impact of uncontrolled seizures. It is a poignant reminder of the urgent need for greater awareness and support for epilepsy. Kai's journey also highlights the missed opportunity for him to try cannabis-based medication, which has shown promise in reducing seizures and potentially preventing such tragic outcomes. Join us this epilepsy awareness month to learn more about Kai's real-life story and the importance of raising awareness for epilepsy. Together, we can work towards reducing the number of deaths associated with uncontrolled seizures.

Through her three books, "Whenever I Fall," "After the Fall," and "Then the Snow Fell," Vikki is raising vital awareness.
